Justice Halima Sulaiman, presiding over a Kano High Court, has rendered a verdict resulting in the life imprisonment of Rukayya Abubakar, a housewife convicted of the murder of her stepchild, as reported by Daily Trust.
The court was apprised by prosecution counsel Barrister Rabia Sa’ad that in the year 2021, Rukayya Abubakar had thrown her stepson into a well, causing his demise—an act deemed in violation of section 221 of the Penal Code.
During the proceedings, Sa’ad presented four witnesses to testify.
In defense, Barrister Rilwan Muhammad implored the court to consider mercy, citing the convict’s role as a mother responsible for several children.
Nevertheless, the court decreed that Rukayya Abubakar is to serve a life sentence in prison for her actions.
