Unidentified assailants, suspected to be of pastoralist origin, have tragically ended the life of Dr. Stephen Angbas, a medical practitioner, in Nasarawa State. Dr. Angbas, who owned Angbas Clinic in Lafia, fell victim to this violent incident during the late hours of Tuesday, October 17, 2023. The unfortunate event occurred as he was returning from his farm on a motorcycle in the Awe Local Government Area of the state. Eyewitnesses, as reported by Punch, suggest that the attackers, suspected to be armed robbers, targeted both the doctor and the motorcyclist who was transporting him to the farm.
Dr. Angbas, unable to recover from his grievous injuries, tragically lost his life, while the motorcycle rider, identified as Mikailu Dahiru, was promptly taken to a nearby medical facility for immediate treatment of the severe wounds he sustained during the attack.
Audu Lawal, an official at the local government council, expressed deep concern about the incident and stated that the council chairman has already informed the relevant security authorities for swift intervention.
DSP Rahman Nansel, the spokesperson for the state Police Command, has officially verified the occurrence, stating, “On the 17th of October 2023, at around 4:00 pm, mobile police operatives received distressing information regarding a fatal assault along the Jangargari-Awe Road.” He further conveyed the tragic news that the victims included a commercial motorcycle rider, Mikailu Dahiru, who survived the attack, and Dr. Angbas Stephen, who succumbed to his grievous injuries.
In response to this heinous act, CP Maiyaki Baba has extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and initiated a comprehensive investigation aimed at bringing the perpetrators to justice. The Commissioner has also encouraged the public to come forward with any pertinent information to aid in the swift apprehension of those responsible for this reprehensible act.
Dr. Angbas, formerly a Plateau State Lawmaker, held a significant role in the past. Meanwhile, Barr. Mairiga Esson, the Honourable member representing Lafia North in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, along with Hon. Jonah Ali Dizaho from the Karu/Gitata Constituency, paid their condolences to the late Dr. Stephen Angbas’s family with a visit to his residence on Wednesday morning.
The legislators who strongly denounced the homicide have urged the law enforcement agencies to swiftly initiate efforts to apprehend those responsible for this heinous deed.
Furthermore, the Honorable members extended their heartfelt condolences to the wives, family, and well-wishers, advising them to accept the loss of their father as a manifestation of God’s will.
