The incident occurred on Wednesday, Nov 25, along the popular Tombia market area of the state. The women hit by stray bullets have been identified as Alice Azaghene, Mrs Ebinipiri Onojamadu, and Mudufuro Blessing. According to reports, the policemen allegedly opened fire on roadside market women because their presence on the road caused a traffic gridlock that delayed their escort van from passing through the area. It was gathered that the accused policemen, numbering six, came down from their van and allegedly started shooting to disperse traders and pedestrians in order to make way for their vehicle to pass freely. The State Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, who arrived at the scene of the shooting, said the trigger-happy policemen had been arrested. Related
