Cultists murder one in Delta community

A man known as Oyeme Eguari was killed in what is believed to be a cult-related attack in Abbi, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State.

The incident took place on December 31, 2024, during a crossover night celebration. Eyewitnesses told Punch that the victim, thought to be in his 20s, was shot dead by suspected cult members at a beer parlour on Ejakita Street, Abbi.

“He was enjoying time at the beer parlour with friends when members of a cult group stormed the venue and shot him,” a witness said. The source also called on the Delta State Government and human rights organizations to intervene and address the growing violence in the area.

“We urge the state government and human rights groups to help raise awareness of this issue and bring it to the attention of the Delta State Commissioner of Police,” the witness added.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, it’s confirmed. Four suspects have been arrested and handed over to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU),” Edafe said.

“This group has been linked to multiple violent crimes in the area, including armed robbery, murder, drug trafficking, and serious assaults.”
