Bola Tinubu Reverses Appointment of 24-Year-Old Engr. Imam Kashim Imam as FERMA Board Chairman

In an announcement on Thursday, October 19, Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, revealed that Bola Tinubu had rescinded the nomination of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA). This nomination had been originally declared on Friday, October 13, with the President appointing the 24-year-old “for a renewable term of four (4) years, in accordance with Section 2(3) of the FERMA Amendment Act, 2007.”

The appointment stirred concerns and critiques, as many believed Imam lacked the necessary experience for the role. In response to the public reactions, Ngelale confirmed that the nomination had been withdrawn immediately.

Although the presidency did not provide a specific reason for this decision, Ngelale clarified that all other appointments to the Board and Executive Management team of FERMA remained unaffected by this directive.

The statement conveyed, “President Bola Tinubu has directed the withdrawal of the nomination of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA). The President’s withdrawal of the above-mentioned nomination is directed with immediate effect. All other appointments to the Board and Executive Management team of FERMA are not affected by this directive.”
