Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have neutralized nine Boko Haram terrorists and recovered a total of ₦5.1 million in ransom money during a series of successful fighting patrols in Magumeri and Gajiram general areas of Borno State.
In a statement released on October 11, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK), confirmed that the operations also led to the rescue of two kidnapped civilians — Mr. Modu Kinnami (55) and Mr. Bukar (57), both from Guzamala.
According to the statement, the operation was launched following credible intelligence on terrorist movement around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area on October 10. Troops intercepted the terrorists, who were moving in two vehicles with 24 fighters on foot, and had been terrorizing locals and setting homes ablaze.
The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists for approximately 92 kilometers, eventually engaging them in a firefight that resulted in the elimination of five insurgents, while others fled with injuries. Recovered items included:
-
One AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798)
-
Five magazines (three empty, two loaded)
-
31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
-
One Itel mobile phone
-
One dagger
No casualties or equipment losses were reported on the side of the troops.
In a separate encounter near Zundur village along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, OPHK troops mounted on motorcycles engaged and neutralized four additional Boko Haram fighters. During the operation, troops rescued the two kidnapped civilians and recovered:
-
₦750,000 in cash
-
A blue pickup vehicle (Reg. No. GUB 327 XA)
-
Two new Tecno button phones
-
30 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
-
An additional ₦4,355,000 cash
Preliminary investigations revealed that the terrorists had demanded ₦2 million and two Tecno phones as ransom for the release of the hostages’ brother.
The military stated that further operations are ongoing to sustain pressure on terrorist elements and deny them freedom of movement across the region.
