The Ondo State Police Command has brought charges against a 42-year-old woman, Kemi Ayodele, in an Akure Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing her neighbor with a broken plate.
The accused, along with a man named Akerele Odunayo, 45, faced four counts, including conspiracy, assault causing harm, and attempted murder. The incident took place on November 30, 2023, at around 8:30 pm at their residence, No. 32 Oshinle Quarters in Akure.
According to the prosecutor, Musbau Bakare, the defendants, in collaboration with others still at large, conspired to assault Ubagun Chinanoye by stabbing her left eye with a broken plate during an altercation. The victim suffered grievous harm and was promptly taken to the hospital.
Bakare claimed that the defendants, through their actions, attempted to take the life of the complainant, resulting in charges under Sections 516, 335, and 320 and 332(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.
Despite pleading not guilty, the defense counsel, Mrs. B.A. Ayodele and A.O Akinde, requested bail for their clients, assuring the court that they would not evade trial. Chief Magistrate Folashade Aduroja granted bail in the amount of N500,000 each, with two sureties each providing the same sum. One of the sureties must be a civil servant not below level 12 and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case is adjourned until January 24, 2024, for further proceedings.
