The abduction of passengers, including a pastor, has been officially confirmed by the Cross River State Police Command. The incident occurred around Nde 3 Corners, Akparabong Junction in Ikom Local Government Area of the state as the victims were en route to celebrate the New Year on Sunday, December 31, 2023. Gunmen reportedly fired at their vehicles, resulting in injuries to three individuals, while an unspecified number were taken captive to an undisclosed location.
SP Irene Ugbo, the spokesperson for the command, verified the occurrence and assured that efforts were underway to secure the release of the abducted passengers. Notably, this incident follows a similar kidnapping on the same spot the day before, where the District Superintendent and Treasurer of Obubra District of the Assemblies of God Church in Cross River State were also taken. Rev Joel Okey, his driver, and Rev Afata were on their way to Obudu for an official assignment when they fell victim to the abduction.
