In response to the recent travel advisory issued by the United States of America to its citizens in Nigeria, the federal government has expressed its concerns. The United States had previously cautioned its citizens in Nigeria about “elevated threats” to major hotels in the country’s “larger cities.”

Addressing this matter on Monday, November 6, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that such advisories could undermine the government’s ongoing efforts to attract investors to Nigeria. He also noted that such warnings might incite unnecessary panic and have adverse economic repercussions.

Furthermore, Idris emphasized the federal government’s consistent commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all visitors to Nigeria. He added:

“We have implemented comprehensive security measures at both federal and state levels to ensure the safety of tourists and international guests. These measures encompass intensive intelligence gathering, the acquisition and deployment of additional security resources, ongoing training and retraining of personnel, as well as cooperation with international law enforcement agencies, among other initiatives, all aimed at maintaining a secure environment.”
