Police in Sokoto State have arrested 18-year-old Abba Aliyu for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy from his neighborhood in Badon Hanya.
According to a statement from ASP Ahmad Rufai, the police successfully dismantled a kidnapping operation with Aliyu as the main suspect. Following reports of the abduction, the anti-kidnapping unit launched an intelligence-led operation, leading to Aliyu’s arrest after he contacted the child’s parents and demanded a ransom of 2 million naira. The frightened parents paid 500,000 naira before the child was released.
Detectives traced Aliyu to a location behind Zamson filling station, where he was apprehended. During questioning, he admitted to the crime and confirmed that a Tecno mobile phone used to demand the ransom was recovered. Rufai stated that the suspect will be charged in court once the investigation concludes.
