The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Adebayo Peter, following the alleged murder of his friend, Lekan, in Akure, the state capital.
The tragic incident reportedly unfolded in the Ireakari-Oloko area of Akure on Friday night, purportedly after the suspect consumed illicit drugs.
Confirming the occurrence, the spokesperson of the command, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, disclosed that the case had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further scrutiny.
“While the matter is under investigation, we cannot ascertain whether the suspect was under the influence of drugs,” Odunlami stated.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the suspect had ingested a substance referred to as “ice,” a crystalline form of amphetamine-based drugs, shortly before the fatal altercation with his friend.
“We are still unsure of the motive behind the killing,” the source revealed. “When questioned, the suspect was incoherent. Both individuals hail from Ede town in Osun State.”
The grim discovery was made when a mutual friend from Delta state raised an alarm upon witnessing the distressing scene. Lekan was found in a critical condition and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
“Their Delta friend reported that Lekan went into the room to retrieve his phone charger but failed to return,” the source explained. “Upon attempting to investigate, he was prevented from entering by Adebayo. However, upon peering through a window, he discovered Lekan lying motionless in a pool of blood.”
The deceased’s body was transported to a local hospital morgue for further examination.
