A man has been apprehended for purportedly poisoning his wife with the intention of inheriting her assets.

The police in Jigawa state have detained a 40-year-old man named Habu Ibrahim for allegedly plotting to poison his wife in Danadama village, Sule Tankarkar LGA.

Revealing this development to journalists, the state’s Commissioner of Police, A. T. Abdullahi, issued a statement stating that the suspect was apprehended for purportedly contaminating a drink and meat with poison, intending to harm his 35-year-old wife, Zakiya Uzairu, in order to inherit her assets. The police chief mentioned that upon receiving the report, detectives from the Sule Tankarkar Division promptly responded, arresting the suspect at the scene. He further noted that the suspect was taken to the Divisional Police office in Sule Tankarkar for interrogation and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further probing.

“During the interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, confirming the accuracy of the information provided to the police. He admitted to intending to eliminate his wife to take control of her livestock, which included goats, sheep, and cows. He mentioned that the wife narrowly escaped after detecting the poison and foiling his plan,” the police disclosed.
