A 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook Los Angeles in the early hours of the New Year. The quake’s epicenter was just off the coast of Palos Verdes at 8:27 AM PT on January 1, and its effects were felt in areas such as Hollywood and Pasadena.

While the extent of any potential damage caused by the New Year’s tremor remains unclear, it was not comparable to the devastating earthquakes experienced by Japan the day before. On New Year’s Eve, Japan faced three powerful consecutive earthquakes, with the largest registering a magnitude of 7.6.

The aftermath of the Japanese earthquakes included significant damage to roads and bridges, prompting the government to issue tsunami warnings swiftly. Over 97,000 people were compelled to evacuate, as reported by Reuters.
