A South African woman and her boyfriend have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the vicious murder of her husband. The court’s verdict reflects the gravity of their actions, condemning their roles in the brutal killing and ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
The woman and her boyfriend were found guilty of orchestrating the murder in a premeditated and heinous act of violence. Investigations revealed that the deceased was shot dead with an unknown pistol at Lerajane village, Mohlaletsi in the Sekhukhune district, and his vehicle was set alight.
The deceased’s wife, Maesela, shared a love child with her co-accused lover, Mashiba. Prior attempts of poisoning the deceased had also been made by his wife, according to investigations.
In the aggravation of sentence, the senior State advocate argued that the court should not deviate from the prescribed sentence for such heinous crimes. She described the murder as senseless, premeditated, and callous, emphasizing the accused persons’ lack of remorse for their actions.
The court heard that moments before his murder, the victim uttered words of disbelief to his wife, asking if she was the one killing him, before she shot him three times at point-blank range.
Acting Judge Ephraim Makgoba sentenced the widow and her boyfriend to life imprisonment for murder, along with additional years for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
The director of public prosecutions in Limpopo commended the prosecution team and police investigating officers for their thorough work, which led to a successful prosecution.
