The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has made an earnest appeal to fellow Yorubas, urging them not to take part in the protest or rally organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) scheduled for February 27 and 28.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 25, Afenifere’s leader, Reuben Fasoranti, called upon Nigerians to exercise patience and restraint, emphasizing President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to address the challenges inherited upon assuming office in May 2023.
“As responsible leaders, we urge every Yoruba citizen, irrespective of age, to refrain from participating in protests or activities that could escalate tensions,” Fasoranti stated.
Acknowledging the prevalent hardships, Fasoranti underscored the necessity of confronting Nigeria’s national challenges while recognizing the government’s dedication to implementing measures aimed at restoring economic prosperity and stability.
“While the difficulties faced by our people are undeniable, we must understand that these economic measures, though arduous, are essential components of a broader strategy aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s economy,” he explained.
Fasoranti also implored Nigerians to remain patient with the current administration, acknowledging the challenging impact of Tinubu’s economic reforms on everyone. He urged citizens to trust the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its people.
