Reports suggest that Chelsea is gearing up to activate the €130m (£111m) release clause in Victor Osimhen’s Napoli contract, aiming to secure the striker’s services in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Chelsea is looking to expedite the process to sign Osimhen. Galetti reveals that while Mauricio Pochettino’s side has agreed to meet the full release clause amount, negotiations are underway to finalize the payment structure between the two clubs.
Osimhen, the 25-year-old Super Eagles striker, showcased his prowess by scoring 26 Serie A goals last season, playing a crucial role in Napoli’s title triumph. Despite signing a new contract with Napoli until June 2026 last December, Osimhen is poised to depart the Italian champions during the upcoming summer transfer window.
In a recent statement, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis hinted at Osimhen’s departure, acknowledging that negotiations over the new contract were amicable. He also mentioned that Osimhen is likely to join Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, or a top English club.
Paris Saint-Germain, in particular, sees Osimhen as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who has expressed his intention to leave the club for Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season.
