FG declares March 29, April 1, public holiday to mark Easter celebration

The Federal Government has announced Friday, March 29th, and Monday, April 1st, 2024 as public holidays to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Honourable Minister of Interior, conveyed the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, urging Christians and all Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifice and love exemplified by Jesus Christ in his redemption of humanity.

Beyond its religious significance, the Minister emphasized that Easter promotes values of love, forgiveness, and compassion, which are crucial for fostering social cohesion and harmony. He encouraged Christians to embody these virtues, highlighting their potential to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development by promoting unity, reducing conflicts, and fostering cooperation among citizens.

Additionally, the Minister called on Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity to support the less privileged, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration.

As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Easter, the Minister extended warm wishes for a joyous and meaningful celebration to Christians both at home and abroad. He urged all citizens to collaborate with the government in its commitment to achieving sustainable development and prosperity for all.
