Gunmen have tragically taken the life of Sylvanus Namang, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State.
The incident occurred when gunmen attacked a pub in the Pankshin Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, February 17, 2024, resulting in the death of Namang and another individual. A senior APC member, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed Namang’s untimely demise to Punch in Jos on Sunday, stating, “Yes, it’s true. We have lost our spokesman, Sylvanus Namang. From what I was told, he went to Pankshin for a burial on Saturday. Afterward, he went to buy something at an eatery in the locality.”
The source continued, “Suddenly, some armed individuals came to the place and shot at him and one other person. He later succumbed to the injuries sustained and died. I learnt that the other victim, who is said to be a businessman, also died from the gunshot wounds.”
Expressing shock at Namang’s death, the source urged security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators of the killings to ensure justice prevails.
Namang had previously served as a director with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), where he held the position of General Manager of Lafia FM Radio for four years. Additionally, he worked as the Chief Press Secretary to the late Deputy Senate President, Senator Ibrahim Mantu.
