Law enforcement apprehends the son of an Osun monarch in connection with the murder of a lecturer based in the United States.

The Osun State Police Command has taken Prince Eniola Oyeyode, the son of Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Oyeyode Oyesosin, into custody in connection with the homicide of US-based lecturer, Dr. Richard Idowu Adeoriokin.

According to reports, the deceased was shot at Prince Eniola’s residence in Ejigbo town by a local hunter, shortly after attending the 50th Coronation Anniversary of the monarch. Dr. Adeoriokin was promptly rushed to a private hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the command, SP Yemisi Opalola, stated that Prince Oyeyode directed one of his civilian guards, Hammed Abdul Jelili, to test-fire his double-barrel shotgun to check its functionality. Unfortunately, the guard fired directly at the victim, resulting in his tragic demise.

“The Osun State police is using this medium to inform the general public that the Command is aware of the incident of shooting that occurred at Ejigbo which led to the death of one Dr. Richard AdeoriOkin,” the statement disclosed.

The incident unfolded on January 27, 2024, at approximately 9:48 pm, following the 50th Coronation Anniversary of the Ogiyan of Ejigbo. Prince Eniola Oyeyode, who issued the order to fire the gun, has been apprehended and is currently in custody.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Bzigu Dali Kwazhi, mni, therefore appeals to members of the public, especially the residents of Ejigbo, to remain calm as discreet investigation has commenced immediately,” the statement added.
