Anambra police have reportedly killed three alleged members of a gang responsible for the attack that resulted in the death of two police officers at Uga Roundabout in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State last Thursday.
The police action took place during a raid on the gang’s camp in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area, on Sunday night, following a manhunt initiated based on intelligence gathering. According to Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police in the state, the gang had launched another attack in the area on Saturday, December 30, after the Thursday incident. During this subsequent confrontation, security officers dislodged the gang, rescuing a 51-year-old kidnapped victim in the process.
Items recovered from the criminals during the operation included a Lexus Jeep, four Improvised Explosive Devices, two pump-action guns, and 16 live cartridges.
Adeoye stated, “The third body of the gang members has just been recovered by the police, bringing the total number of three insurgents that have so far been killed.” The operation was conducted on Sunday night based on intelligence, tracking the gang to their camp in Ogboji.
The police commissioner emphasized that the officers who lost their lives during the initial attack on Thursday were from Enugu State and were on a special mission. He assured the public that the manhunt for the assailants and other criminal elements in the state would continue. Adeoye encouraged citizens and holidaymakers to carry on with their lawful activities without fear, promising to provide further updates on the matter soon.
