Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has reportedly arrived in Finland to undergo minor surgery.
William sustained the injury during Nigeria’s second Group A game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite featuring for 90 minutes in the game and netting the winning goal from the spot in the 55th minute, he suffered a ruptured biceps femoris in his right leg. According to sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, the PAOK defender will undergo surgery in Finland tomorrow to repair the injury.
Due to the injury, Troost-Ekong missed Nigeria’s final group game against Guinea-Bissau. However, he returned for the Round of 16 victory against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and played every minute of the Super Eagles’ next three games.
Troost-Ekong, named the best player of the 2023 AFCON tournament, is expected to return to action for Greek side PAOK Salonica towards the end of the season.
