Mohammed Bello Mu’azu, the Gombe State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has issued a warning to men, urging them to verify the HIV status of their extramarital partners, commonly known as ‘side chics.’
Mu’azu conveyed this caution while revealing the arrest of an 85-year-old man who had reportedly enticed numerous young girls into sexual relationships. Following a medical examination, both the elderly man and his four wives were confirmed to be HIV positive. Emphasizing the high prevalence rate of HIV in Gombe State, Mu’azu likened it to a time bomb, urging the public to be cautious about engaging in illicit sexual relationships and advising them to confirm their partners’ HIV status before entering into any sexual relationship.
The Commandant also highlighted the challenges faced by the NSCDC regarding certain non-governmental organizations (NGOs) supporting same-sex relationships and marriages in the state. He expressed concerns about this prevalent situation and emphasized the need for vigilance.
It is noteworthy that in the past year, 76 individuals were apprehended and accused of participating in a “gay party” in Gombe State.
