Thirteen villagers who were abducted 62 days ago from their homes in Unguwar Liman, Gwada ward of Igabi LGA in Kaduna State, have been released from captivity.
The captives were among the 30 individuals kidnapped from the community in December 2023.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the kidnappers initially received N6.5 million as part of an agreement to release all the victims. However, they only freed 17 individuals and demanded an additional N16 million for the remaining captives.
The remaining 13 individuals regained their freedom last Saturday following the payment of ransom. Malam Jafaru Anaba, a community leader whose relatives were among those released, confirmed the development on Monday, February 12. He declined to disclose the exact amount paid to the abductors but mentioned that the victims had been reunited with their families.
“We are grateful to God that the remaining hostages have been released after spending 62 days in captivity. Some of them are currently receiving medical treatment,” he stated.
