Why I didn’t build new schools in Anambra as governor – Peter Obi opens up

Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, addressed allegations that he didn’t construct any new schools during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State. In response to criticisms from social media influencer Reno Omokri, who challenged Obi and his supporters to point out a single school he initiated and completed during his eight-year tenure, Obi defended his record during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Obi asserted that those making such claims failed to familiarize themselves with his manifesto. He emphasized that upon assuming office, Anambra’s education sector was in disarray, with schools shuttered and the state ranking 26th in the country. However, under his leadership, Anambra rose to the top spot in education.

He stated, “I improved the quality, physical, and mental well-being of the people. Schools were equipped with the essentials, and the people flourished. This was the essence of my manifesto. Constructing new schools when existing ones are dilapidated is akin to building coastal lines when internal roads are impassable.”
