A pastor has been brought before a Chief Magistrate Court, facing allegations of making threats to kill Magistrate Mrs. Mosunmola Ikujuni.
The accused pastor, identified as Paul Oyewole, stands accused of failing to fulfill a promise to repay N3 million borrowed from a complainant within seven days. It is further alleged that he resorted to faking his own death in order to evade repayment of the N3 million loan obtained from a church member. Additionally, Oyewole purportedly offered money or a recharge card to the magistrate in an attempt to influence her in a specific case, accompanied by threats of harm if she did not comply.
The pastor has been charged with conduct that could potentially disrupt the peace, particularly in his demands for the magistrate’s phone number to continue threatening her.
The charges brought against him are as follows:
- That on July 21, 2023, at Oka, Ondo, within the Ondo Magisterial District, you, Paul Oyewole, wrote a threatening letter with the intent to kill Magistrate Mosunmola Ikujuni if she did not heed your warning. This constitutes an offense contrary to Section 323 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006.
- That on the same date, time, and location within the aforementioned magisterial district, you corruptly promised to provide money or a recharge card to Magistrate Mosunmola Ikujuni to secure a favorable outcome in a case with charge number MOD/21c/2023, Commissioner of Police vs. Paul Oyewole, in which you are a defendant. This constitutes an offense contrary to Section 98a(b) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006.
The pastor has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He has been granted bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties required to provide the same amount. The case has been scheduled for a hearing on November 16, 2023.
