On Wednesday, January 17, Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, who recently celebrated her 42nd birthday, underwent a scheduled abdominal surgery at The London Clinic the day before.

A statement from the palace conveyed, “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to the hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The procedure was successful, and she is expected to remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days before returning home for further recovery. In light of current medical advice, her return to public duties is unlikely until after Easter.”

The statement emphasized the Princess’s desire for normalcy for her children and the importance of maintaining the privacy of her medical information. Kensington Palace pledged to provide updates only when significant new information arises.

Expressing regret for postponing upcoming engagements, the Princess extended her apologies to all concerned and expressed her anticipation of resuming activities as soon as possible. Following her discharge, Princess Kate is slated to recover at home in Windsor, where the Prince and Princess of Wales relocated in 2022.

During her recovery, Prince William will scale back on public duties to provide support and attend to their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. He will refrain from official duties while Princess Kate is in the hospital and during the initial stages of her recuperation at home.
