The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed a warehouse in Kaduna for storing expired food and cosmetic products worth over N75 million.

NAFDAC announced the action on its official X handle on Tuesday, January 22, revealing that the warehouse is located at PP2A Bayajidda Street, near Kano Road, New Ogbomosho Road. During the raid, workers were caught repackaging expired biscuits into sacks, and other expired products, including dairy milk, vegetable oil, soft drinks, and detergents, were also found. The warehouse’s managing director has been arrested for questioning.

The agency stressed that strict regulatory penalties would be imposed once the investigation is complete.

The raid uncovered expired products valued at over N7 million, including “H-Pylori” test kits, which pose significant public health risks. Since November 26, 2024, NAFDAC has put in place guidelines for the proper handling and disposal of unwholesome medicines and other regulated products such as food, medicines, medical devices, and cosmetics.

NAFDAC emphasized that no regulated product should be manufactured, imported, exported, sold, or used in Nigeria unless registered under NAFDAC regulations. The agency defined unwholesome products as those that are expired, improperly sealed, damaged, misstored, mislabelled, counterfeit, substandard, prohibited, or unauthorized. It also stressed that facilities must maintain an inventory of unwholesome products.

NAFDAC urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
