Activist Aisha Yesufu has stated that she would strongly oppose Peter Obi if he becomes president and attempts to serve more than one term.

Speaking on Arise Television on Monday, April 6, Yesufu stressed that Obi must honor his longstanding promise to serve only a single term if elected.

“If Mr. Peter Obi gets into office and decides to do more than one term, I, Aisha Yesufu, will oppose him with everything in me because he gave his word, and he must keep it,” she said.

Yesufu noted that Obi’s stance on a one-term presidency was not new, explaining that he had consistently made the promise even before the 2023 general election.

“He didn’t start saying it after the 2023 election. He was saying it before then,” she added.

She also revealed that she had personally discussed the issue with the former Anambra State governor. Initially skeptical, she said she later sought a direct confirmation from him after the election.

“After the 2023 election, I sat down with him and asked, ‘Is it true you’re going to do just one term?’” she recounted.

According to Yesufu, Obi reaffirmed his commitment during that conversation.

“He told me he meant it and that he had already said so publicly. I made it clear to him that I was telling people based on his word, and I stake my integrity on such statements,” she said.

She warned that any attempt to go back on that promise would be met with resistance.

“He gave his word. He cannot come back and say he wants more than one term. We will oppose him,” she said.
