A resident of Kasuwan Ali community in Mangu Local Government Area was reportedly shot dead during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the House of Representatives seat, according to Daily Trust.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the victim was shot by soldiers after tension erupted over delays in the commencement of the exercise.

A resident, Ibrahim Sale, said the crisis began when some APC members protested the postponement of the primary, which had initially been scheduled to hold on Saturday morning.

According to him, the exercise could not begin due to the absence of returning officers, leading some youths to accuse party officials of deliberately delaying the process.

Sale explained that government officials who arrived to observe the election attempted to leave the venue after noticing that electoral officers were absent. However, some youths reportedly blocked the road, insisting they would not allow anyone to leave until the primary election commenced.

He said the situation attracted security personnel who moved in to disperse the crowd. During the confrontation, some youths allegedly threw stones at the security operatives, after which soldiers opened fire.

Sale added that a stray bullet reportedly struck the victim during the chaos.
