President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has admitted that he, like many Nigerians, has personally felt the harsh effects of the economic reforms introduced by his administration since assuming office in May 2023.

Speaking in Abuja after emerging victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary on Saturday, Tinubu said the burden of steering the country through economic reforms has taken a personal toll on him, including loss of sleep and weight.

“I understand the sacrifices required to rebuild a nation we inherited in a difficult condition. If Nigerians have lost sleep, I have too. If Nigerians have lost weight, I have as well. But I always remind myself that in 2022, I asked for this responsibility, and with your support, I got it. So I must deliver,” he said.

Tinubu noted that despite the challenges caused by the reforms, his administration remains committed to stabilising the economy and improving the lives of Nigerians.

In the APC presidential primary conducted across all 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards nationwide, Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes, defeating his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,503 votes.
