A magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti on Monday ordered the remand of 70-year-old Rotimi Olabiwonnu and his 34-year-old son, Adedoyin Olabiwonnu, at a correctional centre over the alleged murder of Sunday Ogunsakin.

In a Form K filed by the police, the prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence in Afao-Ekiti on September 14.

Oriyomi alleged that Rotimi, a former chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Ekiti State, conspired with his son to murder Ogunsakin.

According to the prosecutor, the deceased was allegedly abducted by the defendants following a dispute over land.

He further told the court that Ogunsakin was pulled out of a vehicle and sustained injuries in the process. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to remand the defendants at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The defendants’ pleas were not taken.

Consequently, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, ordered that the two men be remanded at the correctional centre pending legal advice.

The court adjourned the case until November 2 for mention.
