Robert O’Brien, The United States National Security Adviser, has tested positive to the novel Coronavirus, making him the highest ranked Trump administration official to have contracted the virus.
The White House announced on Monday afternoon July 27, that O’Brien had contracted the virus, was showing mild symptoms and has been placed under isolation.
O’Brien, 54, has “mild symptoms and has been self-isolating and working from a secure location off site,” the White House said in a statement Monday.
“There is no risk of exposure to the President or the Vice President. The work of the National Security Council continues uninterrupted,”
O’Brien travelled early this month to Europe to meet with officials from the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy. He was photographed in close proximity with his European counterparts, none of whom wore masks.
Other White House officials have previously been diagnosed with the virus. Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary Katie Miller tested positive in May while Trump’s personal valet, who served Trump’s meals, also tested positive.
Kimberly Guilfoyle, the girlfriend of the president’s oldest son, Trump Jr, also tested positive in July. Trump. his wife melania, Vice President Mike Pence, his wife and family are safe from the virus and are constantly tested, according to the White House.
