A man has been apprehended for the theft of two horses in Niger State.

The Niger State Police Command has taken into custody one Ahmed Abubakar Aliyu on charges of horse theft from a farm situated in Chekungi village.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, October 12, 2023, by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the pilfered horses were successfully recovered from the suspect and returned to their rightful owner.

 

The statement reads, “On 04/10/2023, at approximately 14:30 hrs, a report was made at ‘A’ Div Bida concerning missing horses from a farm at Chekungi village, near Bida. The report indicated that on 03/10/2023, around 21:10 hrs, two female horses disappeared from the stable, which housed approximately five horses.”

“The complainant had strong suspicions regarding one Ahmed Abubakar Aliyu ‘m’ from Zaria, Kaduna, who had been frequenting the farm for horse grooming and racing activities.”

“Subsequently, the suspect was swiftly apprehended on the farm, and during questioning, he confessed to the theft, admitting that he had relocated the two horses to a nearby bush from the farm. Later, he hired a vehicle from the park to transport the horses to Kaduna for a sum of one hundred thousand naira.”

“As per his admission, the vehicle’s driver was contacted, and he delivered the horses at Mararaban-Jos, Kaduna. A different vehicle was then organized to bring the horses back to Bida.”

“Presently, the suspect is in police custody, and the case is under thorough investigation. Upon conclusion of the investigation, he will face prosecution in court.”
