A mentally unstable individual reportedly attacks a worshipper inside a church with a machete during a deliverance session.

A mentally unstable man, who was brought to a church in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, for deliverance, has been apprehended for allegedly wielding a machete and inflicting a deep cut on a worshipper during the deliverance service.

It is reported that the man grabbed a cutlass from the church altar and attacked the worshipper. The injured individual was promptly taken to a hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.

Confirming the incident to the media, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated:

“Preliminary information indicates that the pastor claimed he could heal the mentally unstable man and commenced praying. While the prayers were in progress, the disturbed individual, engaged in a struggle with the pastor and other congregation members, seized a cutlass from the altar and injured one of the worshipers. Additionally, the individual believed to be mentally unsound has been transported to the hospital for psychiatric assessment and treatment, while his relatives are being interrogated in secure custody. Further details will be provided.”
