A nominee for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board of Directors, Urum Kalu Eke, has declined the appointment, citing his current engagement with the World Bank. President Bola Tinubu had nominated Urum and four others on February 13 for confirmation as members of the CBN board.

During the confirmation proceedings on February 29, former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Kalu, informed the Senate that Urum had contacted him to reject the offer, expressing concerns about potential conflicts with his current role as a consultant with the World Bank.

“The nominee informed me that accepting this position would create conflicts with his consulting work for the World Bank, various Federal Government agencies, and private companies,” Senator Orji Kalu stated.

Meanwhile, the Senate has confirmed the appointments of the four other nominees forwarded by the President to the CBN Board of Directors. The confirmed directors include Robert Agbede, Ado Yakubu Wanka, Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu.
