Michael Chidozie has been apprehended by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly assaulting and strangling his wife to death in their residence in Mile 4, near Port Harcourt.
The victim, Mrs. Ufuoma Eriera Chidozie, a mother of three from Delta State, reportedly succumbed to her injuries sustained during the assault in the early hours of Tuesday, March 5, 2024. She left behind her three sons aged 10, 7, and 5.
According to a source in the area, who requested anonymity, the suspect alerted his late wife’s brother about an emergency at their home but fled before his brother-in-law arrived. Upon arrival, the brother discovered the lifeless body of his sister and raised an alarm.
The source stated, “When the late woman’s brother arrived, the house was open and quiet. He then went in only to find the lifeless body of his sister. He shouted and called out the name of the woman’s husband.”
The couple had reportedly been experiencing marital issues prior to the incident.
The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday morning, March 6, by the Agip Police Division, Mile 4, Port Harcourt.
State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is in custody while investigations are ongoing. The woman’s body has been deposited in the mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
