The police in Adamawa state have apprehended a thirty-five-year-old man named Ishaya Markus for allegedly fatally stabbing a man during a dispute in a community in Fufore LGA on March 3.

The deceased, Franchise Albert, had been grappling with marital issues with his 20-year-old wife, Libiyatu, since 2022, after discovering her extramarital affair with the suspect. Despite warnings from the deceased, both his wife and the suspect, who resides in Luggure Gajere, Fufore LGA, persisted in their relationship.

Libiyatu, upon her arrest, confessed to the police, saying, “My husband warned us when he found out about our affair. We fought over it, and I left for my parents’ house. Ishaya followed me, and we engaged in an affair in the bush after the warning. He continued to have relations with me five times.”

The suspect continued his adultery with the victim’s wife, reassuring her that her husband would remain unaware of their actions.

Libiyatu recounted, “We later reconciled with my husband and I returned home, promising not to engage in extramarital affairs again. On the day of the incident, Ishaya came to take me out again, but I wasn’t home. ”

During interrogation, Ishaya admitted to the affair and confessed to fatally stabbing the deceased. “On that day, I went to the community where the deceased and his wife resided, intending to meet her again despite the warning. However, I didn’t find her. As I was heading home, I encountered the deceased, and an argument ensued. He drew his knife, and I did likewise, resulting in a violent altercation. He wounded me on my hand and neck. In self-defense, I stabbed him twice in the stomach and neck, leading to his death.”

The suspect expressed remorse and offered to support the deceased’s wife or pray for her to remarry. He pleaded for forgiveness from the police.

Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, had ordered a thorough investigation, assuring that the suspect would face prosecution.
