At the opening of the 2024 First Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), emphasized the challenges of his role, stating it to be the second most demanding globally. As the Chairman of the occasion, Cardoso expressed optimism about the Federal Government’s reform efforts, highlighting signs of progress. He noted that recent reports from the CBN indicated an influx of approximately $1.8 billion into the markets, suggesting a positive trajectory for the economy. Cardoso remained hopeful that sustained progress would pave the way for Nigeria to overcome its economic challenges and witness a moderation in the foreign exchange market.
