After nearly three decades together, Akon’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, has officially filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
According to court documents, Tomeka states that she and the singer were married in September 1996. The couple share a 17-year-old child, and Tomeka is requesting joint legal custody, along with primary physical custody. She is also seeking spousal support, while asking the court to deny any such support to Akon.
Throughout his career, Akon has remained vague about his marital status and the number of partners he may have had, but this legal filing marks a definitive move by Tomeka to clarify her status.
As of now, Akon has not publicly commented on the divorce.
