Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has expressed concern over the recent demolition of several buildings in the Trade Fair area of the state.

The demolition exercise, carried out by operatives of the state taskforce alongside security agents, targeted 19 structures described as “illegal developments.” According to officials, the buildings were allegedly erected without proper statutory approvals, were structurally defective, or were constructed on road setbacks and drainage channels.

Reacting to the incident on his Facebook page, Igbokwe said he was shocked by the development and questioned the rationale behind the demolitions. He also revealed that he, along with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, serve as patrons of the market in question.

Igbokwe’s comments have sparked reactions from stakeholders, with many calling for clarity on the legal status of the affected structures and the enforcement process.
