Body of teenager found at UI pool

The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a teenage boy whose body was discovered in a swimming pool at the University of Ibadan.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday. He said information from the institution’s Chief Security Officer indicated that the body of the victim, believed to be between 14 and 15 years old, was found floating on the pool in the early hours of Thursday.

Olayinka explained that police detectives promptly visited the scene, where preliminary findings showed blood coming from the victim’s mouth and nose, along with minor bruises on the nose.

He added that items thought to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were recovered near the pool. Bloodstains were also noticed within the pavilion area.

According to the police spokesperson, the body was taken to the General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, where the victim was confirmed dead on arrival and later deposited in the mortuary.

He stated that the case is being treated as a suspected murder, with a full investigation already underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Olayinka urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.
