Rivers Court Removes Pro-Wike PDP Chairman
A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt on Monday, January 13, dismissed Chukwuemeka Aaron as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Aaron, a known loyalist of former Governor Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was removed after Justice Stephen Jumbo ruled to nullify the PDP’s ward, local government, and state congresses held in July 2024.
This ruling follows a similar decision made a month earlier by another High Court in the state, which annulled the ward, local government, and state congresses of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers.
In that case, the court also ousted Wike ally, Chief Tony Okocha, from his position as the Rivers State chairman of APC.
The PDP congresses had been conducted by a faction of the party aligned with Wike. Additionally, a State High Court presided over by Justice Charles Wali had blocked the PDP from proceeding with the congresses on July 20, 2024.
