Former child star Rory Callum Sykes, 32, tragically lost his life in the devastating wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles. His mother, Shelley Sykes, shared the heartbreaking news of his death in a fire that engulfed his home.

It is believed that Rory was trapped inside a small cottage near Malibu when the flames broke out. In an emotional interview with 10 News, Shelley recounted her desperate attempts to save her son: “I couldn’t put out the cinders on his roof with a hose because the water was turned off. When the fire department brought me back, his cottage was burnt to the ground. He will be incredibly missed.”

Reports indicate that Shelley had to drive a quarter of a mile to seek help after being unable to reach 911. Sadly, firefighters later informed her that Rory had died from carbon monoxide poisoning, according to The Mirror.

Rory was best known for hosting the British RTV show Kiddy Kapers in 1998. Born blind and diagnosed with cerebral palsy, his mother had previously shared how he had “overcome so much” in his life, including therapies to regain his sight and learn to walk.

In a touching tribute following her son’s tragic death, Shelley Sykes wrote on Twitter/X: “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @Rorysykes to the Malibu fires yesterday. I’m totally heartbroken. British-born Australian living in America, a wonderful son, a gift born on mine and his grandma’s birthday, 29 July 92, Rory Callum Sykes.”

She concluded her message with: “He will be incredibly missed by @shelleysykes, mama, his pet peacocks Edgee and Mickie, and all his online fans around the world!”
