The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has said that no aspirant from Northern Nigeria should run for president in 2027.
Fintiri, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remark on Tuesday, March 3, during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.
He acknowledged that the Constitution permits any qualified Nigerian to contest the presidency in 2027 but argued that, in the interest of national unity, the South should be allowed to complete its eight-year tenure before power returns to the North.
“It is still the turn of the South. A Northerner has no business at the moment seeking the office of the president,” he said.
