In response to the recent outbreak of communal violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an immediate curfew in the affected areas.

The decision was communicated by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, in a press statement issued to journalists in Osogbo, the state capital.

To curb further escalation of the conflict, the Governor has imposed a curfew from 7 pm to 7 am, effective from Thursday, January 16, 2025, until further notice.

The statement detailed additional measures aimed at restoring peace to the warring communities. “In light of the recent clash between Ifon and Ilobu, the Osun State Government has implemented the following steps to ensure lasting peace,” the statement read.

A combined force of security personnel, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, has been deployed to the regions to maintain order and prevent further disturbances. The statement also urged all stakeholders in the affected areas to work with the state government to resolve the conflict peacefully.

As part of efforts to find a long-term solution, a broader Committee of Stakeholders will be established, comprising community leaders, security chiefs, members of the State Council of Obas, and other relevant organizations.

The statement concluded with a firm warning: “Any individual or group found instigating or participating in violence, whether knowingly or unknowingly, will face the full consequences of the law, in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
