A powerful 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook the area between the Greek islands of Crete and Antikythera on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Greece’s Geodynamic Institute, the quake occurred at 4:26 pm local time, with its epicenter located approximately 13 miles off the coast of Antikythera. The tremor had a focal depth of 36 miles.
The earthquake was felt across several regions, including parts of Crete, the Peloponnese peninsula, and Attica. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
This event comes just five days after a strong 4.6-magnitude quake rattled Naples and its surrounding areas in Italy. Residents there described hearing a “roar” and experiencing a “strong tremor” when the quake struck around 9:15 am last Friday.
