IBEDC Expresses Waiting for NERC’s Directive on Electricity Tariff Increase

IBEDC, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, has confirmed that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is yet to issue a directive on the proposed new electricity tariff, which was originally scheduled to take effect on July 1.

The announcement of the new tariff has faced strong opposition from various stakeholders, who argue that the timing of the increase is inappropriate, considering the poor service delivery by many electricity distribution companies.

In addition, NAN, the News Agency of Nigeria, observed a significant influx of customers at IBEDC offices, as they sought to purchase energy in anticipation of the impending tariff implementation. However, these customers were left disappointed due to complaints of congestion and network issues experienced by the company, which hindered their ability to make energy purchases.

The combination of the delay in NERC’s directive and the challenges faced by IBEDC in managing customer demand has created an atmosphere of uncertainty and inconvenience for both the company and its customers.

IBEDC remains committed to addressing these challenges and providing seamless services to its customers. The company is hopeful that NERC will soon provide the necessary guidance on the new electricity tariff, allowing for a clear and well-coordinated implementation that takes into account the concerns of all stakeholders.
