On Thursday, March 28, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) certified the statement of result and certificate belonging to Governor Hope Uzodimma at the governorship election petition tribunal in Abuja.
This development followed a subpoena issued by the tribunal to WAEC, requiring the examination body to produce and present the documents on behalf of Governor Uzodimma in response to a lawsuit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Samuel Anyanwu. The lawsuit challenges Uzodimma’s victory in the last Imo governorship election, alleging non-qualification and accusing Uzodimma of forging his WAEC certificate.
The Head of Administration at WAEC Headquarters, Mr. Omifenwa Tajudeen Tunbosu, presented the documents before the tribunal. The first document was a certified true copy (CTC) of Uzodimma Goodhope Odidika’s West African Examinations Council General Certificate of Education, bearing certificate No. SG 904497 of June 1982. The second document was a CTC of Uzodimma Goodhope Odidika’s confirmation of statement of result dated December 18, 2014, previously sent by WAEC to the office of the Senate President and delivered on January 7, 2015.
During his testimony, Tunbosu confirmed that Uzodimma is the rightful owner of the WAEC certificate and verified its authenticity.
Subsequently, the tribunal, presided over by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, admitted the documents as evidence.
