The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports suggesting plans to destroy uncollected permanent voter cards (PVCs).

A recent online article claimed that the electoral body intended to destroy six million uncollected PVCs. However, in a statement issued on Sunday, January 5, INEC refuted the claim, calling it “false” and urging the public to disregard the report.

“We have been made aware of a newspaper article suggesting that the Commission is considering the destruction of over six million uncollected PVCs from the 2015 voter registration. This report is incorrect. At no point has the Commission contemplated destroying uncollected PVCs. The public is advised to ignore the story,” the statement read.
