Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, a convicted kidnapper, along with his co-defendant Joseph Emeka, who are facing murder charges, are exploring the option of a plea bargain.
Yusuf Sule, the lead prosecuting counsel, disclosed this to the Lagos High Court in Ikeja, under the jurisdiction of Justice Adenike Cokers, during a hearing on May 16. The defendants were scheduled for re-arraignment on an amended five-count charge related to murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit felony (specifically kidnapping), and attempt to murder. However, Sule informed the court that the defendants had applied for a plea bargain, and these terms were under review by the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN).
Evans is already serving a life sentence for a prior kidnapping conviction in 2022. In February 2022, Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Evans, along with two others, Uchenna Amadi and Okuchuwkwu Nwachukwu, to life imprisonment for kidnapping businessman Slyvanus Ahamonu and extorting $420,000 in ransom from his family.
